Security Assistant

Provides support during suitability and security program transactions by reviewing all initial background investigation processing forms for accuracy and completeness. Provides follow-up actions to ensure required information is received. Answers inquiries and provides program information and assistance. Initiates request for additional information from employees and contractors to complete investigative requests. Reviews request forms of background investigations to detect obvious errors or omissions in the information. Utilizes computer network systems in developing, preparing, tracking information, reports, and other data. Establishes protocols for incoming data, organizes computerized data sets and retrieves computerized data. Performs a basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports. Aids in safeguarding and handling sensitive information by performing duties in compliance with established guidance, policies and regulations. Assists in the protection of information that is stored, processed, and/or communicated by electronic systems. Receives and processes security and suitability case information and reports. Uses software applications to generate information used to prepare/assist in the preparation of reports. Other duties as assigned. Promotion Potential:
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05, and for a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 grade level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
answering inquiries and providing program information and assistance; entering and tracking information in an automated data system; ability to compile, analyze, and summarize information with accuracy and completeness; utilizing computer network systems in developing, preparing, tracking information, reports, and other data; performing basic analysis of the data and generating a variety of reports, etc. GS-07 Qualification Requirements:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
entering and tracking information in an automated data system; providing support during suitability and security program transactions; initiating request for additional information from employees and contractors to complete investigative requests; knowledge of pre-suitability standard criteria and applying judgement in the adjudication of credentialing standards; working with internal groups in determining programs, methods, and techniques to develop standard procedures for processing DCSAs Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) packets for Security Clearances and Suitability determinations, etc. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits or stands comfortably to do the work at a computer workstation. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, or libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, cooled, and ventilated. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
