Research Health Science Specialist

NOTE:
This is a TERM appointment (366 days). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Coordinates the work of a single or multi-site research study and the work of site coordinators. Assists the Principle Investigator (PI) with both qualitative and quantitative research related to the study. Assists PI with preparation and submission of Research and Development (R&D) paperwork. Screens and evaluates candidates for a study, using the protocol's exclusion and inclusion information. Recruits eligible participants. Administers clinical and other rating scales to confirm eligibility of potential subjects. Obtains informed consent process before conducting and recording quantitative and qualitative interviews with patients or family members. Develops standard operating procedures and policies for a study. Manages an electronic record management system, recording recruitment and interview information and updating the system. Maintains detailed and explicit documentation of data analysis procedures required to establish project validity, reliability, and audit ability, abstracts medical records to obtain data for patient participants. Collaborates on report writing. Accesses various library and on-line search engines using specialized software to perform extensive literature searches on health services/mental disorder topics related to the focus of a research project. Assists in preparation of manuscripts authorized by a PI for publication in peer-reviewed health/medical journal. Facilitates and monitors transcription of interviews; manages and monitors collection of medical records; trains Research Health Science Specialists in the protocol/policies and procedures for the project and in appropriate interview procedures. Must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree:
major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. Note:

Experience:
Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically related to the work of the position. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
Experience with rules and regulations governing the protection of human subjects in research studies; Supporting, facilitating and executing qualitative and/or quantitative, single or multi-site research projects; Screening and evaluating research participants to see if they are eligible to participate in research studies; Preparing and submitting documentation to obtain ongoing approval of study protocols by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Research & Development (R&D) Committees; Performing statistical programming for health services research projects. Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. Note:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
